Miami Public Works Dump Truck Slams into Taxicab Resulting in 11-Vehicle Fatal Accident

Miami has seen its fair share of trucking accidents lately, and unfortunately, tragedy continues to strike as a recent accident resulted in the death of a taxicab passenger.  This horrific Miami crash was caught on camera as a Public Works dump truck hit the back of a taxicab.  This initial impact set off a domino effect where one car after another was struck, totaling 11 vehicles.  The taxicab passenger was the only fatality. However, many others were seriously injured and taken to local hospitals.  Most people are likely to ask why this accident occurred.  Was it preventable?  Was it outside the truck driver’s control?  Numerous questions are lingering, and the answers are not available yet.

At Greenberg, Stone & Urbano, our Miami trucking accident attorneys provide legal representation to individuals and family members who have been injured as a result of a trucking accident through no fault of their own.  Our attorneys understand how difficult it can be to overcome a debilitating injury, especially when someone else is at fault for causing the accident.  We have come across tragic accidents like this one and know what steps need to be taken to further the rights and interests of the injured.

What Was the Cause of this Accident?

Like so many others, you probably want to know what the exact cause of this accident was, and if anyone is at fault for causing the accident.  While the definitive cause of this Miami dump truck accident is not known, there are some possibilities that may have contributed in some way to this accident.  Such possibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Driving conditions;
  • Brake failure;
  • Tire failure;
  • Speeding;
  • Driving under the influence;
  • Drowsy driving;
  • Falling asleep at the wheel;
  • Inattentive driving (such as talking on the phone, texting, eating, etc.); and
  • Failing to keep eyes on the road and check all mirrors.

At first glance, and from seeing the video of this dump truck accident, it may appear as though the truck driver was in some way at fault for causing this accident.  While this may be true, it is also possible that a defect on the truck prevented the truck driver from slowing down or stopping.  Blame cannot yet be placed until this accident is further investigated.  Accidents can be preventable, and only time will tell us whether or not this particular dump truck accident is one that could have been prevented.
